MY EVOLVE 2019 KEYNOTE ADDRESS FROM 14 NOV

Welcome to Evolve 2019. I was talking to a lot of you last night and you were mentioning about the cold front hitting back home. Hopefully, your families are staying warm and you get to enjoy the good weather here and the conference.

Thank you for being here. And a special thanks to those who are on the JOYN platform already. Briefly, I want to look back at where we started – just to create a context for where we are today. Then, I’ll share where we’ll soon be going together.

WHY WE CREATED JOYN

Every great software company is built on the insight that without customers we have no right to exist. That seems intuitively simple – but not everyone in our industry gets it.

We do. That’s why we began our journey with you by asking you about your tallest barriers. Your toughest battles on the oilfield. And you’ve never been shy about telling us.

• It’s too hard to respond to emerging priorities.
• It takes too much time and money to scale operations.
• Our workers want more productivity.
• Our people are constantly chasing each other just to find and exchange information.
• We’re relying on phone calls and emails, and even hand-delivered dispatches, to pass vital information.
• Our lease operators are being pelted for demands for information that’s already been captured in a system – somewhere.
• And then, our people burn time sitting at a desk in a field office typing numbers into Excel spreadsheets. When they should be spending that time working the wells.

You told us, “we’re being left behind.” There’s all this talk of the wonders of technology, you said, and yet our vendors are giving us stove-piped, old-school applications that must be constantly force-fed. And even when they get data, they won’t share it by talking to each other.

You were right. You were being left behind. I’m a technologist. I understand the possibilities. And I created this company to help. That’s why JOYN was born.

WHAT JOYN HAS DONE

We’re not the only technology company trying to get your attention. Usually, I don’t like to talk about our competitors because I believe strongly that what we’re doing is unique. We’re not bringing you a generic platform that was built simply to automate generic business processes. We’re bringing you the next generation of smart technology with mobility, cloud, and AI, that’s designed and built for the oilfield. And nobody else is doing that.

While we’ve been building and evolving JOYN together, our competitors have been sleeping. Here’s something funny about sleeping we can talk in our sleep, but we can’t listen. Our competitors are talking. They’re telling you your needs can be met with off-the-shelf systems that were never designed for you. We know differently because we’ve been listening. It’s your needs and the realities of life on the oilfield that are driving us. And we’re not building software for anyone but you.

JOYN doesn’t just automate processes or make tasks easier. It looks at volumes. It reads what’s happening to those volumes and responds. It prioritizes jobs by potential production gains. JOYN FSM was a great step forward for us all. We moved to dynamic routing. We freed your people from the ruts of the road, giving you hours back every day. Hours of time back for more oil and a better life.

That day, during EVOLVE, I saw you as the drivers and owners of our technology. Our product JOYN has evolved right alongside you in response to your needs.

Now, we’re here at EVOLVE once again – because you still need more. And you deserve it. So, what’s next?

Next milestone -> JOYN3

Soon, we’ll be rolling out JOYN3. It’s the next step with our Pump by Exception platform, and it’s focused on bringing you more of what you’re asking for.

JOYN3 won’t look like a dramatic transformation for you. Because you’ve told us you like the direction we’re moving in. But under the skin, you’ll see more powerful technology that is aimed at real-time calculations. All the benefits of technology that measures volumes and potential impacts will be yours, but with greater speed than ever.

And JOYN3 will be very focused on better integration. JOYN has broken new ground from the beginning by gathering data from across the oilfield, from every legacy system, from every mobile device, from SCADA, and every meaningful source, to give you accurate volume data. JOYN3 takes it farther with major improvements in integration across the board.

And with JOYN3, there’s more. We’re going to push the boundaries of capability so, JOYN The Pump by Exception platform can deliver more value than ever before.
