A lease operator spends on an average one third of the work day in entering data. The hands that are meant to produce more oil and gas are thus being tied to mundane data entry. Most of the field supervisors I meet tell me, it is anywhere between 48 to 60 hours for an issue detected at the well to be communicated and assigned to maintenance technicians for remedial action, and another 60 to 72 hours before the corrective action is taken and communicated back. In all, it is almost a full working week spent on a small fix. And, the worst part is, the majority of time is spent on transmitting the information rather than actually fixing the issue! This is bleeding of productive hours- an oil field can ill afford.
On any given morning when I walk in to a field office, I see the supervisors rummaging through sheets of data to know which routes the Lease Operators were pumping yesterday and what were their key findings. And, given the complexity and volume of work in managing tens of routes and hundreds of Lease Operators, it is really seems essential that they adopt a technology that takes away this opaqueness and provide a clear, transparent picture of the wells and field operations.
